PBD update!

Hi all!

Last weekend was the Handmade Arcade here in Pittsburgh and it was a blast! It was the first show for both my sister, Aubrey Hyde Accessories, and myself. It was such a super experience and we met so many great people. It was a long day, on our feet for 8 hours but well worth it!

Here's a few photos, not great, but you can get the idea...

Getting ready for Handmade Arcade...

My sister and I will be doing our first indie arts/crafts show on November 11. It is the Handmade Arcade here in Pittsburgh. This is just a small sampling of what I will be hocking. There is still so much to do!

Jet Set Journal + Area Code Notes

Yet another new product from Pink Bathtub! Introducing the Jet Set Journal and Area Code Notes.

It is a collaboration effort between my sister, aubreyhyde.etsy, and moi! We had the idea to use my old printer letters and numbers with airport and area codes...thus the Jet Set Journal & Area Code Notes were born!

This is the perfect gift for your jet setting friend or for yourself...never again be without a journal when you travel! Because you know you come up with all of your best ideas when you are on the road and have nothing to jot down your thoughts on!

The kraft covered journal is a 64 plain page, Moleskine cahier. It measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" and the last 16 sheets are detachable. The journal is hand block printed and will come with 4 Area Code Notes which measure 3" x 3" and can be stashed away in the back inner pocket.

A note about the legendary Moleskine Journals...

"...used by European artists and thinkers for the past two centuries, from Van Gogh to Picasso, from Ernest Hemingway to Bruce Chatwin..."

I just ordered another lot of journals, so be on the lookout for additional cities. Or contact me for a specific airport and area code. I have these two, Portland and NYC, available in my Etsy shop.

A new twist on stockings and stuffers.

I am happy to be a part of StockingStuffers.etsy.com! Erin, of oneluckybaby, has come out with the coolest stockings using hip, modern and kitschy fabric, just like she uses for her awesome baby products.

She went one step further and grouped
items together from other fantastic Etsy sellers to offer as stocking stuffers. Such a fabulous idea!

You will find my holiday gift tags in the
GAL PAL Stocking Stuffers Package.

Invitations.

I guess I have officially delved into the world of custom invitations. I have done a few in the past for friends and family, but never for someone I didn't know...until a few days ago!

A woman from Portland found me through Etsy (thank you Etsy!) and saw my turtle baby card. She is having a turtle themed party for her 4 year old.

Etsy Collaboration!

My Etsy collaboration with the wonderful Sara of girlscantell is finally complete and now listed! The theme is a "summer dinner with friends" and includes such tasty treats as olive tapenade, strawberry pie and chickpea and carrot couscous. I think even diehard carnivores can enjoy this amazing meal!

It all started as a conversation within a post on the Etsy forums about vegetarian recipes. Sara and I thought it would be fun to put together different menus based on vegetarian recipes. I provided the recipe and menu cards and she hand wrote each recipe and made the pouch. Oh, and they are her recipes! The set would make a fabulous hostess or housewarming gift. Or keep it for yourself!

It was a lot of fun working with Sara. I look forward to our Fall menu!

Custom Work.

Recently I've been working on some cool custom projects. Here's one I just completed for a woman in Australia. They are recipe cards for a bridal shower. The card will get mailed with the invitation, then the invitee brings the card to the shower with a recipe written on it for the couple. A cute idea!

More journal talk.

It's been quite fun working with a new medium. As much as I love cards, it is nice to try something different. The good news is I actually sold my first journal on Etsy yesterday!

I have one more 'orange poppy' left and recently listed a 'citrus' one. I have one blank journal left that might need to feature a hot pink poppy. I bought these four from another Etsy seller and for the life of me I couldn't find anymore anywhere online, until yesterday! Thanks to Dick Blick! I really love the quality of these little books. So, I will probably be ordering another batch soon...

New product - journals!

I bought these excellent kraft-paper covered journals a few weeks ago and had no idea what to do with them. Then today, I was rummaging around my studio and pulled out my poppy linocut that I made a while ago...and viola!

I have it listed in my Etsy shop. Soon to come...hot pink poppy journals!

100th Etsy Sale!

Woohoo! Today I sold my 100th item on Etsy! I've only been selling since the end of February...so that ain't too shabby.

I should also mention that on top of the 100 items sold, I have gotten two wholesale orders from being discovered on Etsy.

And, of course, I have purchased many items too...mostly gifts and other goodies I couldn't bear to live without...ha!

Crabby.

I am not sure why it is, but it seems like when I am in the middle of doing a gazillion things, I come up with a new card idea or design. And I have to make it right then and there, photograph it and stick it in my Etsy shop. So, today, while feverishly packaging up my second order of the day with the intent of making the post office by 5, I came up with a new card. I guess it's just the way I work. (Oh, and yes, I did make the PO by 5...actually 4:30!)

Anyway, here's the result...the outside says "sorry" and the inside reads "I've been a bit crabby lately." Haha...I am way cheesy today...

Largest order to date!

I just completed my largest card order to date, 312 cards for a store (actually there are 4) in Minneapolis called The Bibelot Shops. This is their third order. Whoa! OK, off to package them up and ship 'em out! Then on to the next order...a busy day here at the Pink Bathtub studio!

Sample Sale!

Hi! Well, I am back from Milwaukee. What a great trip. We celebrated my nephew's 4th birthday and I got to meet my brand new niece!

I delivered a bunch of goodies to Paper Boat Boutique...an excellent store! I usually don't get to hand deliver orders, so it was neat to actually see where my items will be sold.

So, I am having a sample sale over at my Etsy shop. Check it out! You choose from 5 designs, give me some parameters or let me choose randomly for you. I will be doing a gift enclosure and gift tag grab bag too.

Paper Boat Boutique order!

I just completed the order for Paper Boat Boutique! And I get to personally deliver it since I am on my way up to Milwaukee this afternoon to visit family. (I have a niece due any minute now!)

I love that they ordered some of my block print letter cards...I will be anxious to see how they sell as they are very new for me.

Around the studio.

I got a little distracted this morning and started taking pictures around my studio.

This is Henry, Pink Bathtub's resident goldfish and design inspiration. He was born in our pond in Portland and drove across country with us when we moved to Pittsburgh. Have you been to Wyoming? Henry has.

A small portion of my new collection of metal and wood block letters and numbers. I went a little crazy buying them on eBay. I have made some note cards and monogrammed flat notes with them which are in my Etsy shop.

My windowbox. I've got million bells, potato vine, petunias and a couple nasturtiums.

OK, time to get cracking. I am working on a few orders, including one for Paper Boat Boutique, which I am very excited about. They are all about supporting indie designers. My sister, Aubrey Hyde, also sells there. Our first store together!

You never know where inspiration is going to come from...

Being holed up in my studio for four days straight in full-on card production mode can make one go a little stir crazy. Not that having work to do is a bad thing...quite the contrary. So, yesterday during a much needed break, I browsed through the latest Gourmet magazine (which I just love) and came across a gorgeous photo of a shrimp and vegetable dish. This sparked me to revisit a shrimp drawing I had done a while back. I pulled it out and started carving a new block. Because, you know, I really had time to start on a new design in the middle of fulfilling 4 orders...

Well, this is the fruits of my labor. The outside says "A Little Note..." Get it? Little/shrimp...ha...see, I was going a little batty yesterday! The inside reads "to say hi." If you are just dying to have one, it can be purchased on my Etsy site here.

I am also working on the blank version which will of course be called "shrimp cocktail." Oh, and I foresee some new recipe cards...

Trunkt.

Recently I was accepted to hock my wares at Trunkt, a boutique in Tribeca, NYC and online store. They feature products by amazing independent designers, so I feel quite priviledged to be among them!

Yesterday, I shipped out my first batch of goodies. I really like the designs they chose to sell. And they selected two designs from my new flat note stationery collection..."mr. owl in orange" and "red crab". (You can see them at the top of the picture).

So, you won't find my products up on their site quite yet, but hopefully soon. I will keep you posted.

Oh, and do you like my new colored envelopes? I just adore them. I think they really make my cards pop!

Admiration from across the pond...

I thought this would make the perfect first post of the new Pink Bathtub blog...

So, yesterday I was checking out my website statistics (I am weird like that) and came across some traffic coming from a blog that I wasn't familiar with. Much to my wonderful surprise, it was a totally inspiring blog called Print & Pattern, from the UK. She features products with great design and cool patterns and motifs. You can't help but be inspired by the prints that she posts. I feel quite honored to be mentioned.
