Before & After :: Living Room.

To me, a house isn't a home until you've touched just about every space within it.  It's been six years in the making, but my husband and I have finally reached this point.  When we bought our early 1930's era house, we loved it for its unique architectural details, abundance of space and clean slate (read: nothing was our taste and everything had to be redone).  Most potential home buyers want everything renovated, updated and move-in ready.  I totally get this.  But it's not us.  We are able to see through bad kitchens, ugly carpeting, horrific wallpaper and wildly unappealing paint colors.

So, our first project was our main living area which is located in the front of the house.  All the walls were painted a pinkish-white with formal white carpeting covering what we hoped would be hardwood floors in good condition.  We took down the old drapes and rods.  Then began transforming a dull and sterile room into something that was warm, inviting and ours.

As  you can see, we did have lovely hardwood floors underneath the carpeting.  They were in good shape, but were discolored and dull after being hidden for so many years.  We recently had them refinished and couldn't be more pleased.  Since there was no fixed lighting in the room, we had recessed lighting installed and it has made quite a difference.  Our furniture is definitely a mish-mosh, but we love the eclecticness of it.  And, of course, it is still a work in progress as we need to get more art on the walls.  We had taken out some tall furniture and haven't had a chance to fill the wall space.

Thanks for taking a peek.
